Stock Transfers

Stock transfers

We are interested in expanding our group of businesses through stock transfers of sheltered / retirement and extra care housing. We have substantial experience as a result of undertaking two major transfers in 2002. We acquired 950 sheltered units from the London Borough of Hackney and also received a transfer of Help the Aged's sheltered and care portfolio. Our experience in working with Hackney and Help the Aged and their residents and advisors, has given us the skills set to advise and support other organisations considering stock transfer as an option.

Specialist management

We understand the management of these types of units that require a specialist approach and skills set. An approach that current providers may possess, but may not be able to devote the necessary time to developing as the retirement housing sector grows increasingly complex through Supporting People changes and the introduction of further legislation. We have the necessary skills and expertise to understand these complexities.

A fair and balanced approach

We also understand that a stock transfer is a decision made not just by the existing provider but by residents too. With our 45 years of managing retirement housing across England, we can work together to assist in this decision making process and ensure that a fair and balanced approach is adopted from the outset.

We are uniquely placed to support providers, as well as give reassurance to residents that their views and interests are central to the process. Our success in Hackney was based on creating a project team that focused on working with residents and explaining how an organisation like Hanover could benefit them. Because we are committed to providing appropriate and sufficient information residents can make an informed decision.

Solutions for success

Our strength lies in being able to create and develop solutions that satisfy the current managers’ objectives, residents’ aspirations and our goal of providing independence and individuality for older people.

For many organisations, moving to a position where a stock transfer can actually take place is a very long process. This is why we are willing to get involved early, to advise on the different routes that are possible, contribute to the internal debates and share our knowledge and experience of how to make it work.
