Hanover recognises artistic talent at 'Older Peoples' Art Week'
Hanover has awarded two of Brighton’s older residents special accolades for winning an art competition during ‘older peoples art week’; being held between 16 and 23 October at Patching Lodge.
Patching Lodge resident, 57 year-old Pat Nunn has won the Patching Lodge Best Artist category with Francis Curry from Coldean winning for New Larchwood..
Despite stiff competition from arts enthusiasts, revered artist Philip Dunn announced the winners at the official launch of ‘older people’s art week’.
Philip said: “I was really impressed by the standard of the entries. Some of the artwork would challenge the toughest art critics.”
‘Older people’s art week’ was born when Hanover support assistant Caroline Carter realised that the art work created by Hanover residents and older people who attend the estate based art classes was of a very high standard.
She said: I am very proud all the artists who entered, some of them have only recently attended art classes.
“The competition entries are so good I am considering commissioning one of the artists to paint a picture for my front room.
“Older peoples art week should be a huge hit for art lovers in Brighton, In addition to artwork Patching Lodge will premier several short films and artistic work shops”.
“If anyone would like to visit the exhibition please telephone 01273 680 744.”
