Hanover resident brings ancient civilisation to life at heritage exhibition

A rare photograph depicting one of the earliest urban settlements in the world has become the centre piece of a photographic exhibition being held at an Extra Care housing estate in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Residents from Dove Court invited school children from Iqra Primary School to discover the ancient history and rich culture surrounding Mohenjo-daro, which is located in Sindh region of Pakistan.

The exhibition is the brain child of former nurse and Hanover resident Abdul Shaikh who met the photographer, Professor Ashiq Arbani at a dinner party during a recent visit to Pakistan.

Abdul said: “I wanted to share my heritage with the local community and at the same time show them a side of Pakistan that they had never seen before.”

When he returned from Pakistan Abdul along with fellow residents from the estate applied to Hanover for ‘Green Shoots Funding’, a small grants programme established for resident groups to help improve their quality of life and make a difference.

He added: “The exhibition has so far proved to be a huge success. “I Couldn’t have pulled this it off without the help and support of my friends, neighbours and landlord Hanover Housing Association.
