Properties for sale - Before You Decide

Before you decide

Moving home, whatever your circumstances, can cause anxiety and worry if you are uncertain about why you are moving and what facilities and amenities your new home should have. If you're thinking of moving into a property that is more suitable for retirement or to enable you to live more independently, there are some fundamental questions to consider.

  • Would you prefer to stay in your current home if you could obtain help in making it safe, secure and comfortable?
  • Does illness, frailty or disability mean that you need more care in your new home?
  • Do you want to rent your home or remain as an owner-occupier?
  • Do you want to stay in your current locality or move elsewhere in England to be nearer friends or relations?

If you agree with a number of these statements moving home may be the route forward for you?

  • My home is too large
  • It is difficult and expensive to maintain
  • I find cleaning and cooking difficult
  • I cannot get a home help or meals on wheels
  • My home needs central heating, a stairlift or a downstairs bathroom or toilet
  • I need to know there is always someone available in an emergency
  • I want to release some of the money tied up in my current home
  • My life would be easier if I was closer to my relatives or friends

If you feel you do need to move to a more suitable home where support or care is on hand you need to consider what your needs are i.e. do you wish for someone to do the gardening or do you need help dressing in the morning.
