How much does it cost?

For many older people, ExtraCare makes financial sense. The main charges include the purchase price or rent, service charge, support charge and a catering cost.

  • Further information is available on our Rents and Service Charges page
  • You may be eligible for help in meeting these costs by applying for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or Supporting People grant. Visit our Financial Support section which explains how we can help, whether you are an existing resident or thinking of becoming one.

How can I move into ExtraCare?

There are several ways to do this:

  • By referral from your local social services
  • By applying to Hanover’s waiting list
  • By applying to your local council’s housing waiting list.

To rent an ExtraCare property, your care and support needs will be assessed, and a home visit would take place. Some local authorities may also request an assessment when buying a property, but you would be advised of this upon application.
