Financial Support
Financial support
There is a range of financial support available to help you pay for your home, and for assistance you may need to let you live comfortably and independently. You may be entitled to some or all of this support.
Most of this financial support is made available through a range of benefits and entitlements from central government, such as the Department for Work and Pensions, or your local authority. This includes help with rent and service charge costs.
Our Benefits and Entitlements page will give you more information about what is available and explains how we can help.
Supporting People
Supporting People is a separate government programme that provides funding for housing support services for many people. This includes helping an older person stay in their own home, helping someone coming out of homelessness to move towards having their own home, or helping a woman fleeing domestic violence. It's aim is to allow local authorities and their partners, such as Hanover, to plan and provide the right services that meet the needs of people locally.
We have a contract with the Supporting People teams in the local authority areas where we operate that pays us to provide support services for our residents who qualify for support. These payments (known as Supporting People grant) cover the support charge which you may pay to us along with your rent and service charge. Supporting People grant is paid directly to us.
You will automatically qualify for help with your support charge if you receive housing benefit towards your rent. If you do not qualify, separate financial assistance may be available. This is called ‘fairer charging’ - eligibility for help is assessed by your local social services team.
Your estate manager can advise you about how to apply for a fuairer charging assessment.
Support services for residents can include:
- Those provided by the estate manager eg. a daily call or visit. Some of the other services provided by the estate manager are charged to the rent or service charge
- Those provided by Hanover On Call, or another emergency alarm provider
- Domestic cleaning (only if this is part of your tenancy agreement).
Support services do not include home care which is for personal care, such as someone visiting to help with bathing or giving medication.
You can find out more about Supporting People, the support services provided by us, and paying for these in our Residents handbook.
