Training and Development

We are committed to providing excellent learning and development opportunities to ensure our staff have the necessary skills and capabilities to do their jobs. We have a range of existing programmes, overseen by our dedicated Learning and Development department, for which we have received national awards and accreditations that highlight the quality of the training on offer. We also have ambitious plans to expand our training provision in the near future.
Induction
Whenever you join any organisation, there is always lots to familiarise yourself with! With that in mind, we have designed an induction process to support staff when they join Hanover.
Local Induction
All staff will receive a local induction with their Line Manager to cover the information, skills, policies and procedures that relate to their role. To support this process we have produced a checklist of key topics for the Staff Member and their Line Manager to cover, with links to relevant documents and information on the Hanover intranet.
Corporate Induction
All new staff are invited to attend our one-day Corporate Induction event within the first two months of joining Hanover. This interactive event enables a new staff member to meet members of our management team, review our history, values and mission, roles of our directorates and outlines our future goals and direction. It will also highlights how each staff member's role fits within Hanover as an organisation.
Leadership and Management Development
To achieve our vision of becoming the leading provider of retirement housing we recognise that we need highly competent and innovative leaders and managers who, with their teams, will deliver our high quality services. Our management development programme called Aspire includes knowledge seminars and peer-discussion that support the development of key leadership and management skills, in the context of Hanover’s business needs and operations.
We have recently gained accreditation for our innovative programme with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and become an approved centre. This enables us to deliver in-house a fully accredited Certificate and Diploma in Management and Leadership at Level 5.
We are currently developing a new leadership programme for senior managers called ‘Inspire’, which will lead to a strategic Level 7 Certificate in Management and Leadership.
Estate Manager Modular Programme
We have developed our own Foundations Modular Training Programme to support the work and practice of our Estate Managers, which comprises of the following modules:
Putting People First, Services to Applicants and Residents, Well Maintained Buildings, Best Value for Money, Safeguarding, Understanding Dementia, Welfare Benefits.
Each module has a mandatory one-day seminar and is followed up back on the estate to practically relate the knowledge gained to their daily work practice.
The programme is currently being benchmarked against a Chartered Institute of Housing Level 3 Diploma in Housing, for which we hope to gain accrediation in the near future.
Professional Qualifications and Work-based Skills Training
Hanover is committed to supporting staff in gaining relevant professional qualifications and undertaking professional courses that help it meet its business objectives and which assist staff in effectively performing their role. This includes full or part funding of tuition fees, paid study and revision leave, contribution to course books and materials and fees for student membership of professional bodies.
We encourage staff to undertake National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and we are currently accessing funding from the Government which is enabling around 150 staff to currently undertake NVQ programmes in Management Level 3, Team Leadership Level 2, Customer Care Level 2 and 3 and Business Administration.
In addition to all of this, we also deliver a programme of optional seminars and IT training which all staff can access.
E-learning
Owing to the geographical spread of our staff we have recently launched our Hanover E-Learning Opportunities (HELO) system which enables all staff to access a range of web-based courses in personal and professional development, Microsoft Office skills and key Hanover systems, when and where they like!
