Hanover joins forces with Yorkshire’s finest to help protect residents
18 August 2016
Hanover Housing Association, a leading national housing provider for the over 55s, has teamed up with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) to strengthen and reinforce its fire prevention measures and help protect its residents across the country.
The new partnership will see experts from WYFRS providing Hanover with the latest fire safety advice which it can adapt within some 19,000 of its properties in England and Wales. The partnership seeks to ensure a consistent approach to fire safety and allows the emergency service and the business world to come together in a partnership, enabling fire and rescue services across England and Wales to work consistently to improve safety.
The agreement is part of the Primary Authority Scheme (PAS) which allows for a national organisation such as Hanover to create a relationship with one regulatory authority in the delivery of their fire safety duties. In securing the partnership with WYFRS, Hanover will be able to develop a close working relationship with WYFRS to create robust procedures and improve fire safety arrangements across Hanover’s portfolio.
The partnership was officially signed on August 18, 2016, by Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton and Dame Clare Tickell, Chief Executive, Hanover Housing Association.
Dame Clare Tickell said: “Obviously the safety of our residents and staff is paramount. This new partnership, coupled with Hanover’s existing robust fire procedures, offers great assurance that we have the appropriate fire safety measures in place to minimise any possible risk of injury.”
WYFRS Business Support Supervisor Balvinder Baines added: “I’m really pleased Hanover have embraced the benefits of establishing this partnership to receive reliable advice on fire safety and ensure that they can maintain the highest safety standards.”
DCFO Walton said: “West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service recognises the role that Hanover Housing plays in providing accommodation for many people aged 55 and over across the nation. We are excited by this new partnership which will allow us to use our expertise, both in West Yorkshire and beyond, to support Hanover in ensuring that their properties are safe from the effects of fire, and that their residents can feel safe, secure and comfortable in their homes. The Primary Authority Scheme has been embraced by this service and we are able to work to influence fire safety in a number of organisations.”
