Teesdale Leisure Centre offers excellent leisure and sports facilities including a 25m swimming pool and sports hall. Teesdale has both public and private golf courses. There are tennis courts and a bowling green in the park at The Bowes Museum.
Of interest locally
Home to the imposing Raby Castle and High Force waterfall, Teesdale is one of the most picturesque areas of the North East. Also of interest is the Bowes Museum, which contains great collections of European fine arts. The Barnard Castle Meet is an annual carnival festival in May, featuring a carnival and grand procession through the town centre.
The author Charles Dickens stayed at the King's Head in Barnard Castle while researching his novel Nicholas Nickleby. He took some inspiration from the clock-maker's shop opposite.
How to find us
Barnard Castle sits on the north bank of the River Tees, around 21 miles from Durham. Located just off the A67, the estate is easily accessible from both the A1(M) and the M6. The nearest railway stations are Bishop Auckland or Darlington for services across the local area and beyond.
Hodgsons bus service 79 runs every two hours from Barnard Castle to Richmond. There are also bus services to nearby Darlington and Bishop Auckland.
