In the local area
The estate is sited within a mile of a supermarket, to which a Dial-a-Ride bus service operates. Leicester is a modern city, rich in arts, culture, sports and heritage, with something of interest for all ages.
There’s a lot to keep shoppers happy here, including the main Haymarket centre and boutique shopping at The Lanes. Church Gate has some of the oldest and more unusual shops in the city. Leicester Market is the largest outdoor covered market in Europe, selling a wide variety of goods.
Melton Road, near the city centre, contains many diverse retail stores and great restaurants for both locals and tourists alike. Leicester is also a great place for sport fans with football, cricket, speedway and one of Europe's leading rugby clubs.
A diverse city
The city hosts an annual Caribbean Carnival and the largest comedy festival in the UK. The Golden Mile is the name given to a stretch of Belgrave Road renowned for its authentic Indian restaurants, sari shops and jewellers.
Great Central Railway is the UK's only double track, mainline heritage railway, offering trips on the full size steam engines which run every weekend.
The annual Leicester International Short Film Festival takes place at various venues across the town, including the Phoenix Arts Centre. The ultra-modern Curve Theatre has world premieres and shows direct from the West End. De Montfort Hall is Leicester’s main music venue, offering classical, jazz, ballet, comedy, opera and world music plus musicals.
How to get here
Getting around is easy too. The estate is close to the A6030, which is easily reached via the A47 or A563. Leicester is handy for to Junction 21 of the M1, the M69 and M6 also being within easy reach. Bus services operate to all the areas towns and villages from two main bus stations. There are three permanent Park and ride sites and a Skylink bus service to East Midlands airport.
Many rail routes are served by Leicester railway station including London, Derby, Nottingham, Lincoln, Sheffield, Birmingham and Leeds. Set in the heart of one of England's most attractive counties, the surrounding villages and countryside are easily reachable to explore.
