Horwich is 5 miles from both Chorley and Bolton and around 20 miles northwest of Manchester. It lies at the southern edge of the West Pennine Moors with the M61 motorway passing close to the south and west.

The nearest railway stations are at Blackrod and Horwich Parkway. There is a Park and Ride facility with trains to Bolton, Manchester and Preston. Frequent buses operate between Horwich and Bolton.
