Alton is a historic market town in Hampshire, just off the A31. The town centre has a range of big name brands, independent shops and several food stores. Market day is every Tuesday with a farmer’s markets taking place monthly.
The Palace Cinema shows films seven days a week. The new library consists of a lending library, reference library, computer facilities and is close to a very active Community Centre. Anstey Park is a great venue for town events and is a meeting point for sports-lovers, hot-air balloonists, and dog-walkers and the starting point for several of the towns long and short distance footpaths.
Out and about
There is a sports centre and pool run by the local council and a bowling club. The town gardens contain a bandstand, a children's playground, flower beds, trees and shrubs. There is a large area of flood meadows, close to the source of the River Wey, which provide a great place for wildlife and bird lovers to enjoy diverse plant and animal life

Alton is in Hampshire and is to the M3 which connects to Southampton, Portsmouth, and Basingstoke and to the M25. Alton railway station runs services to Bentley, Farnham, Aldershot, Ash Vale, Brookwood, Woking, Surbiton and London Waterloo. Local bus services operate to the nearby towns of Basingstoke, Farnham and Liphook.
