Of interest in the area
The town is known for its association with the motor trade, in particular the Ford Motor Company. The movie Made in Dagenham (2010) is a dramatisation of the 1968 Ford sewing machinists strike at the plant, where female workers walked out in a protest over equal pay.
Valence Park on Becontree Avenue is also within strolling distance, containing Valence House museum, the only surviving manor house in Dagenham. The 13th century building is partially surrounded by a moat. Within the park you’ll also find a fishing lake, sports pitches and a library.
Dagenham is a large suburb of East London 11.5 miles east of Charing Cross. The estate is located just off the A124 Wood Lane, near both the A12 and A13. Dagenham Heathway is the nearest tube station on the District line for services to central London.
There’s a mainline station at Dagenham Dock for services to Fenchurch Street and Grays via Rainham. Dagenham Heathway is served by London bus routes 145,173,174,175 and 364.
