Barnsley is a town in South Yorkshire not far from Sheffield, Leeds and Doncaster. There are several shopping centres including the Alhambra centre, with a range of high street stores and a cinema.
The town’s famous historic market has more than 300 stalls offering quality fresh produce sought from local suppliers. Outside the town centre you’ll find several large retail parks and supermarkets to visit.
History and culture
Worsbrough Country Park is a designated local nature reserve set in over 200 acres of countryside, great for fishing, walking and cycling. Here you will find a 17th century watermill and 19th century engine mill.
Wentworth Castle is a listed country house and gardens, while Cannon Hall is a country house museum with collections of fine furniture and paintings. The Hall has a programme of events, including the annual Regency Ball, a Christmas Fair each December and guided tours throughout the year.
Barnsley is located just off junction 37 of the M1. Hanover Court can be found on William Street just off the A61 Park Road, in the Worsbrough area. The town has a railway station, with services to Leeds, Castleford, Sheffield, Chesterfield and Nottingham. Buses run to all the major towns and cities nearby, plus the seaside resort of Blackpool.
