In the locality

Worthing is a seaside town on the beautiful west Sussex coast close to the open spaces of the South Downs. It has an art deco pier, historical houses, the Carpet Gardens, theatres, museums and art galleries plus plenty of shops and restaurants. You’ll find sports facilities for a wide range of activities, plus a café bar at Worthing Leisure Centre. The town also contains a number of parks and gardens. Art and culture

Worthing Open Houses is an annual festival of arts and crafts. In January, the ancient custom of wassailing takes place in Tarring to bless the apple trees. On May Day, a procession and dancing takes place in Worthing town centre, culminating in the crowning of the May Queen. The Worthing Festival is held in the last two weeks of July with open-air concerts in the town centre and a fairground along the town's promenade.

Worthing is 10 miles west of Brighton, and 18 miles east of Chichester. Regular bus services run to nearby Shoreham-by-Sea, Littlehampton and Brighton - and Worthing is served by a mainline station with frequent trains running into London Victoria via Gatwick airport.
