Around the town

Bournemouth offers activities to suit all along its beautiful and largely unspoilt coastline. You take in the town’s seven miles of beach easily by regular land train, which runs along the promenade.

The shopping streets are mostly pedestrianised with modern shopping malls, Victorian arcades and a large selection of bars, clubs and cafés. North of the centre, Castlepoint is a retail park with around 40 retail units. Other major shopping areas are situated in the districts of Westbourne and Boscombe.

The lower, central and upper gardens lead for several miles down the valley of the River Bourne through the centre of the town to the sea. The borough has two piers at Bournemouth and Boscombe.

Things to do in the area

The town offers lively theatre, comedy and opera performances in the Pavilion. The International Centre is often the venue for performances by the renowned Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. You may also enjoy taking a ride on the Bournemouth Eye, for a panoramic view stretching over 20 miles.

The Bournemouth Food and Drink Festival is a ten-day event which combines a market with live cookery demonstrations. The Arts by the Sea Festival is a mix of dance, film, theatre, literature, and music.
