The old city of Ripon is filled with shops, cafés, great restaurants and real British pubs. The area also boasts many historical buildings and museums, including Ripon Cathedral, the Wakeman’s House, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, plus Ripon Spa Gardens.
Every Thursday a market is held in the market square, offering fresh fish, clothes and jewellery, flowers, fruit and vegetables. Other markets take place several times a year, including farmers markets, craft fairs and a French market. The town also has its own race course, hosting the popular Ripon Races.
Points of interest
Ripon Cathedral is one of the oldest and most beautiful cathedrals in Britain, containing the crypt of St Wilfrid (AD 672). The market square plays host to a fair on St Wilfrid’s Day in August. A procession with themed floats, Morris Dancers and a brass band takes place to commemorate the saint, who was bishop of Ripon in the 7th Century.
Every November, Ripon has a spectacular firework display for Bonfire Night. With a wonderful location in the heart of the countryside, you can enjoy leisurely walks along the canal or in the nearby Yorkshire Dales.

Just a short drive from the A61 and junction 50 of the A1(M), the estate is easily accessible from Leeds, York, Harrogate and Skipton.
Ripon lies between the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The nearest train stations are Harrogate, Thirsk and York. Ripon is also very well served by both local and long distance bus services.
