In the local area

The village has a library, post office, Co-op store, a doctor’s surgery and some historic pubs serving food. A football and cricket ground are close by. The little village of Brandon has stunning countryside views and walks to enjoy.

Many more shops and amenities can be found in nearby Durham. The Gala Theatre is situated on the banks of the river Wear in the heart of the city. It has a modern theatre, spacious café-bar and two cinema screens.

History and culture

Brandon village grew up around the coal mining industry - the local colliery finally closed in 1968. The villages’ community garden was created in 2010 from a derelict allotment.

Further afield Durham’s rich heritage is brought to life at award-winning attractions including Beamish Museum, Locomotion and Killhope. Durham has some glorious gardens to visit, including Crook Hall and Durham University’s Botanic Garden.

Brandon is a village in County Durham, situated around three miles from the city of Durham. The estate is located not far from the A690, which connects to the A167 and the A1(M).

Arriva bus routes 49 and 49a serve the village, taking around 12 minutes from Durham bus station. The nearest railway station is at Durham where services include London Kings Cross, Manchester and Newcastle.
