Residents have the Thyme of their lives at official opening of Crown meadow Court

A new housing development designed exclusively for older people in Bromley has proved to be a great hit.  Green fingered residents were celebrating after they were presented with a garden shed at the official opening of Crown Meadow Court on Friday 28 October.

Crown Meadow Court was developed by Hanover, in partnership with Asprey Homes, Bromley Council, and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Residents were joined by Councillor Carr and volunteers from Thyme Out -a Big lottery funded initiative set up to improve the prospects of local people with learning disabilities through horticultural training and work placements.

Crown Meadow Court offers quality apartments and a wide range of facilities and services for older people. Mrs Evelyn Ball, who addressed guests on the day, moved into Crown Meadow Court in May after she was diagnosed with cancer. She was impressed by the modern spacious properties, the Hanover estate manager service and the reassurance of care provided on-site 24/7 by Mears Home Care if they need it.

Hanover Director Claire Anderson said: “Older people tell us they value their independence and security. Hanover understands this, and offers a fantastic range of services coupled with spacious and well designed apartments.

“Within the first few months residents have already shown a real passion for gardening.

“To mark the occasion we decided to present them with a new garden shed.

“The new shed should be a welcome addition for residents as I am sure they are looking forward to creating a colourful and vibrant garden with the help of Thyme Out.”

The Leader of the Council, Stephen Carr said: “I was delighted to join the residents for the official opening of Crown Meadow Court and thank them for inviting me.  This development is an important part of our vision to move from a reliance on residential care to give people who need care and support greater control over their lives with their own front door and the reassurance of 24 hour care on their door step. This is a great example of partnership working – with Hanover Housing who will manage two further schemes in Penge and at Bromley Common.”

Each of Crown Meadow Court’s 60 one and two-bedroom properties has modern fitted kitchens and level-access showers. All residents have access to the 24/7 ‘Hanover on Call’ service, which provides them with a reassuring emergency response.

The development also has a resident-run shop, a hairdressing salon and shared social areas.
