Hanover At Home
Hanover At Home

Hanover has a home improvement agency service that helps older home owners and private tenants over the age of 60 and anyone of any age with a disability, to improve, repair and adapt their homes.
We work in partnership with the public, voluntary and private sectors and together, we can play an effective role in supporting a local authority’s housing strategy and preventative agenda. Through Disabled Facilities, Renovation and Home Repairs Assistance Grants alongside clients’ own resources, loans and financial resources, we support people through the improvement, repair and adaptation process.
Since 2000, we have organised over £20 million of work in creating decent homes for our clients across England.
Where we operate
We pride ourselves on our flexible approach to setting up an agency because we realise that different local authorities have different needs.
Hanover currently has fifteen agencies throughout England.
Our core service
Repairs and adaptations, however small, are often the key to enabling clients to remain living independently in their own homes. Many of our clients are apprehensive about having building work carried out and understandably find the process worrying. Our service is geared towards providing advice, support and technical assistance to enable repairs, renovations and adaptations to be undertaken as smoothly as possible causing minimal disruption.
Other services include:
- HandyVan service
- Signposting clients to other services and agencies
- Advice, advocacy and liaison (subject to individual contractual agreements with the local authority or Supporting People team)
- Hospital discharge schemes and support
- Gardening
- Decorating
- Crime prevention
- Energy efficiency
- Falls / accident prevention
- Loft clearance (linked to energy efficiency).
Who do we help?
Our clients are older or disabled people of any age, and those with disabled dependants who primarily are owner occupiers or private tenants. Many of our clients contact us directly. Others have been referred to us by concerned friends or family, housing and or environmental health, social services, GPs or hospital staff.
