seven-year old boy presented with naming trophy at official opening of Popple Well Springs
A seven year- old boy from Riverside Community Primary school has been awarded a special accolade for winning a naming competition for Hanover’s newest Extra Care Housing estate in Tadcaster.
Despite stiff competition from students from Tadcaster Grammar and other Riverside Community Primary schools, a panel of judges from Hanover and North Yorkshire County Council announced Luke Johnson’s entry ‘Popple Well Springs’ as the winner.
Popple Well Springs was developed by Hanover, a leading retirement housing provider, in partnership with Selby District Council, North Yorkshire County Council and the Homes and Communities Agency.
The scheme has a range of facilities for older people.
Hanover resident, Bill Carr moved into Popple Well Springs in June after an intruder attacked him in his previous accommodation. He is very impressed with the Hanover Estate Manager service and the reassurance of care provided on-site 24/7 by North Yorkshire County Council if he needs it.
Hanover Director Claire Anderson said: “Older people tell us they value their independence and security. Hanover understands this, and offers a fantastic range of services coupled with spacious and well designed flats. “Many of our residents who have moved in recently are now enjoying peace of mind that care and support is on hand if they need it.”
County Councillor Clare Wood, North Yorkshire's Executive Member for Health and Adult Services said: "Popple Well Spring is an excellent example of partnership working and the county council has been deeply committed to supporting this landmark development, which provides an extensive support structure tailored to the needs of people in the community. We are delighted that this facility of 51 apartments will provide housing solutions to older people in Tadcaster with care needs that can be met by 24 hour support."
“Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane, added, “By working alongside Hanover Housing and North Yorkshire County Council we’re able to help people to live independently, but with support in place in case it’s needed. This is about giving people more choice and independence – which helps both them and their families. This is the second extra care scheme we’ve been involved with in the district, the other being in my ward in Brayton. Both are proving popular with residents and both help people to help themselves. This new development is really impressive – great facilities in a great building at the heart of the community.”
Each of Popple Well Springs 51 one and two-bedroom properties has modern fitted kitchens and level-access showers. All residents have access to the 24/7 ‘Hanover On Call’ service, which provides them with a reassuring emergency response.
The development also has a shop, a hairdressing salon, shared social areas and a room with free internet access.
