Financial Information

Information and guidance on the financial support available

There is a range of information and financial support available to help you pay for your home, and for any assistance you may need to allow you to live comfortably and independently. You may be entitled to some or all of this support.

Most of this financial support is made available through a range of benefits and entitlements from central government, such as the Department for Work and Pensions, or your local authority. This includes help with rent, service charge and support costs.

In this section you can find information on:

Supporting People

Supporting People is a separate government programme that provides funding for housing support services including helping an older person stay in their own home. The programme’s aim is to plan and provide the right services that meet the needs of people locally.

We have a contract with the Supporting People teams in the local authority areas where we operate that pays us to provide support services for those of our residents who qualify. Generally you will qualify if you receive housing benefit towards your rent. These payments (known as Supporting People grants) cover the support charge which you may pay to us, along with your rent and service charge, and are generally paid directly to us.

If you do not qualify for Supporting People, separate financial assistance may be available called ‘fairer charging’. Your Estate Manager can advise you about how to apply for an assessment.

Support services for residents can include:

  • those provided by the Estate Manager eg. a daily call or visit. Some of the other services provided by the Estate Manager are charged to the rent or service charge;
  • those provided by Hanover On Call, or another emergency alarm provider;
  • domestic cleaning (only if this is part of your tenancy agreement).

Support services do not include home care which is for personal care, such as someone visiting to help with bathing or giving medication.

You can find out more about Supporting People, the support services provided by us, and paying for these by contacting the Payments Advice Team on 01480 226589. For further information, visit the Supporting People website.
