Hanover staff in our Chippenham office

Our estates welcome volunteers for projects that help to improve residents’ lives and their surroundings. We partner with local and national charitable organisations to create opportunities for volunteers and those seeking work experience to volunteer on our estates and with residents.

Our vision for volunteering is not just that volunteer organisations provide a service to residents -we also want to work in partnership with them to deliver high quality and sustainable volunteering programmes that make a real difference to residents’ lives and to the wider community.

Voluntary work on estates covers an enormous range of activities and projects. Some of these require just a small amount of time, while others offer opportunities for longer term involvement. Here are just a few examples of how volunteers have made a difference on our estates:

  • Caring for pets
  • Improving estate facilities and gardens
  • Delivering leisure classes and social activities
  • Running social activities
  • Helping with computers
  • Reading for residents
  • Organising memory cafés
  • Maintaining gardens
  • Befriending
  • Supporting day trips
  • Fundraising
  • Helping with food services

One great example of how volunteers can make a difference to residents’ lives is at our Swan Gardens estate in Corby, Northamptonshire. Estate manager Mel Munton teamed up with North Northants Groundwork and local police to arrange for young volunteers and their youth workers to create a wildlife pond in the estate gardens, using the residents’ plans. Resident Gina Barry said: 'The work on the new pond and surrounding plants was inspirational.'

If you're interested in volunteering on a Hanover estate through one of our partner organisations, please email community.links@hanover.org.uk.

It’s a wonderful example of how the generations can learn from each other. The young people always felt welcomed and valued by the staff and residents.
