Dame Clare Tickell

Clare joined the Board in January 2014 as Chief Executive.

She has held many non-executive and advisory positions in the voluntary and housing sectors, as well as in the Social Exclusion Unit, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Department of Health and the Audit Commission. 

From 2004 to 2013 Clare was Chief Executive at Action for Children, one of the UK's largest charities, where she was able to influence the development of policies that affect the lives of the most vulnerable and neglected children. From 2011 to 2014 she was on the Guinness Partnership Board.

In 2010 Clare was asked by the Children's Minister to carry out an independent review of the Early Years Foundation Stage. From 2011 to 2013 she chaired the Commission on the Future of Hospice Care and also led on the Peer Review of the LGA early in 2015. 

Presently Clare is Chair of the Board of The Early Intervention Foundation, Chairs the Community and Voluntary Services Honours Committee and is a Member of the Main Honours Committee.

Clare qualified as a social worker at Bristol University in 1989, holds Honorary Doctorates from the University of Bristol and Bishop Grosseteste University and is a Fellow of the RSA and the City and Guilds Institute.

Clare was made a Dame in January 2010 for services to young people.
