Accessibility statement

We are committed to using our knowledge and understanding of the ways in which different people access the Internet, to develop a website that is clear and easy for everyone to use.

This website conforms to Priority Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) where applicable. For our colour palette, we aim to achieve Priority Level AA as a standard, and additionally AAA where possible.

We use the UK Association for Accessible Formats (UKAAF) document, 'Creating clear print and large print documents' to guide us on printed materials. The UKAAF document is available on the RNIB website.

Internet Crystal Mark

In February 2019, Plain English Campaign reviewed our website and judged it eligible to display the Internet Crystal Mark.

To award the mark, Plain English Campaign looks at the language, accessibility, navigation, design and layout of a website.

Organisations displaying the mark are demonstrating their commitment to do everything practical to make their websites crystal clear. There are currently only 49 organisations in the UK who have the Internet Crystal Mark.

Recite Me accessibility software

Our website also offers users a range of additional support using Recite Me accessibility software.

Recite Me works across all devices (PCs, laptops, tablets and mobile phones). It includes:

  • Text to speech functionality
  • Dyslexia software
  • An interactive dictionary
  • A translation tool with over 100 languages
  • Plus many other features

You'll find Recite Me at the top right of every page of our website. Simply click on the Recite Me image:

The toolbar will expand on your screen to show the many features available. The red image to the far right of the toolbar links to a helpful user guide on the Recite Me website.

If there is anything on this site — accessibility or validation related — that is not according to the standard, please contact webmaster@hanover.org.uk.
