Local area

Darlington is a market town with several markets on offer, including the Victorian covered market, a twice weekly street market and a monthly farmers market. The town centre offers a varied shopping experience, having many popular chains plus independent and designer stores, such as those at Skinnergate.

Across the east side of the town on Hollyhurst Road is the main Darlington Memorial Hospital. At the Dolphin leisure centre you’ll find a swimming pool, sports facilities and health and fitness classes.

Situated on the south-eastern edge of Darlington is the Maidendale nature reserve, which has a small wildlife pond, wetland and two large fishing ponds. Here you can enjoy a choice of activities such as angling, relaxation and wildlife, walking and cycling. The reserve offers some of the best kept scenery and wildlife in the region.

Easily accessed via the A66, the estate is also within easy reach of junction 57 of the A1(M) and the M6. The town also has a mainline railway station offering many services to surrounding cities.

There are many local bus services serving the town and surrounding areas, mostly run by Arriva North East and Scarlet Band. Community bus services also operate on popular local routes. Tees Valley Airport is located within the borough of Darlington, five miles east of the town centre.
