Built in 1866 and renovated in 1991, the John Penn and Widow Smith Almshouses were designed to house local people over the age of 60. It is a development of 10 properties with access to shared gardens, a residents’ lounge and guest facilities. The maintenance of the buildings/grounds is taken care of by the Housing Manager.

The Jubilee line of the tube network runs to nearby North Greenwich, site of the O2 and a short bus ride from the town centre, plus there are also a number of river boat services running from Greenwich Pier, managed by London River Services.
