Elegant Downsizer development wins top building design prize
A new development in the New Forest town of Lyndhurst has been named as ‘Best Larger Development’ at the New Forest National Park Authority's building design awards.
The Boltons, Hanover’s latest offering in their Downsizer Homes range, took the prestigious accolade for a development consisting of 26 one and two bedroom luxury apartments in the heart of the delightful New Forest town.
Each unit at the purpose-built development offers plenty of privacy and security, with large open plan living space, generously sized rooms and includes top-of-the-range appliances for high performance and to reduce living costs. With over 50% of the properties already sold, prices start from £147,000 and offer a 999 year lease.
Hanover’s downsizer offer has emerged from its 50-year history of managing housing and services for older people and from identifying a gap in the market for truly appealing age-exclusive developments in aspirational locations.
Claire Anderson, Deputy Director of Development said: 'We are delighted to have won this prestigious award. The Boltons is set in a fabulous location, just off the market square in the beautiful town of Lyndhurst and comes with a particular emphasis on light and space. Each apartment is unique and it’s a testament to Archadia’s vision for a development that would fit within the gorgeous surrounds of the town and the New Forest.'
Ewan Green, Project Architect at Archadia, said: 'The greatest challenge under the Design and Built procurement was to make sure the quality envisaged at the design stage materialised through the construction phase to promote the final product. This was made possible by intricate detailing and a very strong working relationship with both the local authority’s Building Design Officer and our main contractor.'
Downsizing can be a liberating process, an opportunity for a better, unburdened lifestyle that brings about a sense of freedom. It doesn’t mean downgrading. Living in a more appropriately sized home has lots of benefits for over 55s - including avoiding the stress of home maintenance, moving closer to family, freeing up equity from existing property or moving to somewhere which is better designed to flex and adapt to individuals’ changing needs.
Lyndhurst is often described as the royal capital of the New Forest and is the ideal setting for an active, healthy lifestyle. Throughout the year the town hosts book and craft fairs, antiques and farmers’ markets, as well as various other events.
