Local area

The town features some of the most historic architecture in Suffolk. Ipswich is home to many artists and has a number of galleries. The historic Blackfriars area on the waterfront has a lively mix of eateries, bars, coffee shops and independent boutiques.

The town has a fine array of high street stores in the Buttermarket and Tower Ramparts shopping centres. There are three theatres, two museums and an abundance of smaller shops and restaurants

The seaside resorts of Felixstowe and Lowestoft are nearby for day trips, plus you may enjoy the horseracing at Newmarket. The Ipswich Arts Festival, known as Ip-art, is the town’s annual summer arts festival. At nearby Bucklesham village you will find Trinity Park, home to the annual Suffolk Show.

Christchurch Mansion houses a fine collection of art from Suffolk artists including Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable. Holywells Park, painted by Gainsborough, is located near the docks and Alexandra Park near the waterfront.
