Local facilities

Bishopsteignton is a village in South Devon, between Newton Abbot and Teignmouth, close to the Teign Estuary. The village has a post office, community centre, garage, small pharmacy and pubs.

Within three miles to the east and west of the village are the large towns of Teignmouth and Kingsteignton providing a larger choice of shops and facilities. There is a scenic river crossing bridge leading to Shaldon, a famous tunnelled beach and wildlife centre.  This road also takes you on a dramatic cliff-side trip to the bustling town and harbour of Torquay.

Surrounding area

There is a small beach on the estuary, known locally as Down Steps, The River Beach or Red Rock. An ancient footpath leads to the point where villagers could ford the river at low tide to reach Coombe Cellars. In nearby Teignmouth there is the local pier with amusement arcade and rides. The beach wraps around the spit at the head of the river Teign providing a river beach, commonly known as the Back Beach, on the estuary side. There are views up the estuary to Dartmoor.
