Berkhamsted retains much of its old charm and individuality in the fine High Street. Here you’ll find an eclectic mix of shops, boutiques and markets. The Grand Junction canal runs through the town centre parallel to the High Street.

You can also find excellent sports facilities such as bowls, a gym and swimming pool at the Berkhamsted Sports Centre. The Berkhamsted Bowmen make up the oldest archery club in England. There are also a number of attractive golf courses close to the town.

History and culture

The town has historical significance as being where the crown of England was offered to William the Conqueror in 1066. Berkhamsted Castle, near the railway station, is one of the most important early Norman motte-and-bailey castles.

Rex Cinema is recognised by English Heritage as a fine example of a 1930s art deco cinema. Throughout the course of the year the town holds concerts, covering many musical styles including classical and jazz.

Berkhamsted is a historic town in Hertfordshire, located between Tring and Hemel Hempstead. Birch Court is on Bridge Street just off Castle Street and near to the canal. The A41 passes west of the town for links to the M25 and M1.

Rail services operate between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central, with additional trains running to Northampton and Birmingham New Street. A number of local bus routes provide links to Hemel Hempstead, Luton and Watford.
