Scenic walks can be enjoyed here, following a largely flat route from the village through orchards and woodland, offering some fine views of the North Downs along the way. Manor Park is an attractive country park covering 52 acres just to the south of West Malling. The park contains a historic Manor House, café and a lake, which is a haven for swans and other wildlife.
History and culture
Nearby West Malling contains many historic buildings, including the Norman built St Leonard’s Tower. St. Mary’s Abbey contains significant buildings from the Norman, medieval, Tudor and Georgian eras. There is also a Grade II listed Abbey Church which is used by the Anglican Benedictine nuns, who have made Malling Abbey their home since 1916.
The mainly Georgian high street contains the Swan Hotel, an 18th-century coaching inn which is Grade II listed, plus a couple of art galleries.
How to get here
Elizabeth Smith Court is conveniently located just off the A228, not far from junction 4 of the M20. Near to the estate is a bus stop for services to West Malling and nearby Maidstone.
There is a railway station at East Malling, offering services to Ashford International, London Victoria, St Pancras and Bedford and another at New Hythe with services to Maidstone, Paddock Wood and the Medway towns.
