Billingham Beck Valley Country Park is a designated local nature reserve managed by English Nature. The beck itself is one of the major tributaries of the River Tees. It is a great place for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. In August each year the town centre hosts the Billingham International Folklore Festival. Dancers and musicians come from around the world to perform traditional and contemporary dance.
The A19 connects the town to Sunderland in the north and Thirsk in the south. The A689 connects Billingham to Hartlepool in the east and Bishop Auckland in the west. Bellingham railway station has an hourly service to Newcastle. There is an express train from Sunderland to London but the service does not currently serve Billingham. There is a good local bus service which connects to the major towns and villages.
