It sits at the heart of scenic countryside and dramatic coastline, which has a host of cultural treasures. The Dales and north Pennines are areas of outstanding natural beauty, while nearby is High Force waterfall and the heritage coast.
The river Wear offers pleasant walks and plays host each summer to the Durham regatta. Public pleasure boats are also available for hire from April to October. Not far from the cathedral, 13th Century Crook Hall has idyllic English gardens and a pretty tea room to visit.

Hanover Court is conveniently located on Allergate, just off the A690. Durham railway station is situated on the East Coast mainline between Edinburgh and London. The city has a major bus station with links to Newcastle and Sunderland, as well as providing easy access to the Metro centre.
By road, the A1(M), passes to the east of the city, while the A66 provides a scenic route from the Lake District and M6 motorway. Newcastle airport lies to the north, and Durham Tees Valley airport to the south, both being about 25 miles away.
