Wootton is a large Bedfordshire village close to the county town of Bedford. Wootton has had a long association with brickmaking, but is now mainly a commuter village for Bedford and Milton Keynes. Wootton itself offers pleasant walks, a convenience store, medical centre, takeaway outlets and a garage, as well as several pubs serving food.
In the 18th century church bells were made here for several churches in Bedfordshire and adjoining counties. Some attractive old timber-framed houses still survive. The 14th century Church of St Mary the Virgin contains two fine monuments in the chancel to members of the Monoux family who died in 1685 and 1707. To the west of the church is Wootton House, an impressive late 17th-century house with a contemporary, red brick stable block.
The development is conveniently situated just off the A421, near junction 13 of the M1. Regular bus services run from Bedford to Milton Keynes, Leighton Buzzard and a superstore. The town is served by a mainline station with frequent trains running into London St Pancras.
