For most of our Extra Care Housing estates we have agreements with the local authority to let a percentage of our vacant properties to people nominated by them. Hanover’s agreement for this estate is that all of the allocations are managed by the local authority, Hammersmith & Fulham, who can be contacted on 020 8748 3020.
Comprising 51 apartments, the Olive House Extra Care development in Hammersmith is designed for over 60s in the local area. It offers a wide range of on-site facilities including a roof top garden, residents’ lounge, hair salon, guest room and underground car park. Overlooking the Thames, it is convenient for all local shops, bus routes and amenities.
You’ll have no buildings maintenance to worry about as the on-site manager takes care of those aspects, as well as assisting with access to further support. Social activities at Olive House include film shows, arts and crafts, board games, gardening and occasional trips out. There is also a Day Centre attached to the estate offering various activities.
Around and about
King Street is Hammersmith's main shopping street which contains King's Mall shopping centre, many small shops, the Town Hall, the Lyric Theatre, a cinema and two hotels.
Leisure activity also takes place along Hammersmith's pedestrianised riverside, home to a number of pubs and the riverside park of Furnival Gardens. Ravenscourt Park is a large park with tennis courts, a walled garden and a bowling lawn.
Of interest locally
Theatres include the Lyric and Hammersmith Apollo, which also doubles as a concert hall. The Riverside Studios was formerly used by the BBC for TV productions and has a cinema, performance space, bar and cafe.
The famous Dove Pub is the oldest surviving riverside pub in London with, reputedly, the smallest bar in the world. Frequented in the past by Ernest Hemingway and Graham Greene, the narrow alley in which it stands is the only remnant of the riverside village of Hammersmith. You’ll also find good facilities at the Polish Social and Cultural Centre which includes a library, theatre, restaurants and cafés.
Hammersmith is on the main A4 trunk road heading west from central London towards the M4 motorway and Heathrow Airport.
