Local facilities

Gloucester is a city in the beautiful county of Gloucestershire. It is close to the Forest of Dean and the outstanding natural beauty of the Cotswolds.

The main shopping area of the city fans out from The Cross. This is where the ancient streets of Northgate, Eastgate, Southgate and Westgate meet. You will find well known national brands interspersed with independent traders.

History and culture

The historic Victorian docks are a unique and inspiring destination. The Gloucester Quays area has been completely regenerated recently to create a unique blend of the old and the new. Waterside museums, bars, cafés, restaurants and an outlet shopping centre sit alongside new walkways and dramatic public art.

Gloucester Cathedral, in the north of the city near the river, originates from the foundation of an abbey dedicated to Saint Peter. The New Inn in Northgate Street is the last timbered house in the city and it was built around 1450.
