For most of our Extra Care Housing estates we have agreements with the local authority to let a percentage of our vacant properties to people nominated by them. Hanover’s agreement for this estate is that all of the allocations are managed by the local authority, London Borough of Bromley, who can be contacted on 020 8313 4098.
Penge in South East London is home to Sutherland Court, an Extra Care development specifically designed for older people. It offers 50 apartments with access to a wide range of on-site facilities, including a residents’ lounge, restaurant, laundry, hairdressers, guest room and attractive landscaped gardens. Situated within walking distance of Cator Park, the properties are convenient for local shops, amenities, churches and transport links.
An on-site manager looks after maintenance of buildings/grounds and advises on other support issues, plus there’s a 24 hour emergency call system giving you access to help and assistance as required. With regular games sessions, coffee mornings and group outings taking place, you’ll have every opportunity to socialise with fellow residents.
Around and about
Penge High Street has chain stores, smaller shops, takeaways and pubs, some of which have music nights, whilst the Blenheim Shopping Centre has a wide selection of high street retailers plus several cafes, bars and restaurants.
Nearby Crystal Palace Park was once home to Sir Joseph Paxton’s Crystal Palace. Set out to rival Versailles with its spectacular water features, the site was an international attraction. Today the park consists of the Grand Terraces and central axis, open parkland and pathways, statues of prehistoric monsters, sport and recreation facilities plus a maze and café.
Theatre and festivals
Founded in 1972 as a way of promoting and developing existing community relations in the town, the Penge Festival has grown over the years with events now spread throughout three weeks. For those with artistic interests, the Alexandra Nurseries on Parish Lane display the work of local craftspeople, also running artisan workshops throughout the year.
