Around the town

The attractive Woking Park has a cricket pitch, bowling greens and a crazy golf course. There is an indoor swimming pool and a couple of leisure centres. Located in the town square you’ll find the public library. There are also churches for most denominations in the town.

History, art and culture

The Lightbox arts and heritage centre contains pieces of conceptual art and exhibitions on local history. St Peter's Church, Old Woking and the lock at St John’s Lye along the Basingstoke canal are local beauty spots often painted by local artists.

Situated in north-west Surrey, 25 miles from London, Woking was originally a village. A large part of the town reflects its Victorian origins. Woking has a Wellsian Martian Tripod, designed by Michael Condron. The tripod celebrates H.G. Wells’ book, The War of the Worlds, which was written in Woking.
